Make or Do

1

What is it?

MAKE and DO are often confused. General rule: MAKE = create, produce, construct something → "make a cake" / "make a mistake" / "make a decision". DO = perform, complete an activity or task → "do homework" / "do the dishes" / "do exercise". MAKE focuses on the RESULT (what you create), DO focuses on the ACTION/PROCESS (what you perform). Fixed expressions must be memorized: make a phone call ✓ (not do*), do your best ✓ (not make*). Common MAKE: breakfast, lunch, dinner, bed, mistake, decision, money, noise, phone call. Common DO: homework, dishes, laundry, exercise, job, best, business, damage, favor.
